Killer Whale/Orca Safaris, Lofoten
Killer Whale
North of the Arctic Circle you will find the Lofoten Islands. In November when the Northern Lights
often shine over the snow-covered mountains this is one of the best places in the world to spot the killer whales,
or Orcas as they also are called.
The Orcas can grow up to 9 meters, and weigh as much as 8 tons. In Lofoten they feed on herring and they hunt
the fish by slapping at the school with their flukes and then they eat the stunned fish one by one! They live in
groups and have a sophisticated, acoustic way of communication with each other. During our safaris we will learn
more about the Orcas and
their communication.
