If you want to stay longer than 21-days you can apply for a 59-day visa from home. Do this in good time before you go. If you are not sure that you can get a 21-day visa on arrival, check with the embassy of the Philippine Islands in your home country before you go. You have to be a good swimmer to be able to snorkel with the whale sharks.

The friendly whale shark

Donsol is located on the south tip of Luzon. Here, people used to make a living out of fishing and harpooning whales. Today most of the fishermen work with preservation of the whale shark. The whale shark can be up to 18 meters long and weigh up to 40 tons. It is the largest fish on the planet. Nobody knows why the whale shark is found in such great numbers around Donsol, and it is one of few places on earth where you can go swimming and snorkelling with these magnificent animals.

Day 1 Manila - the capital of the Philippines

Our tour guide will meet up with you at the hotel in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. If you arrive early in the day there are lots to see and do, to mention some; Fort Santigao, one of the oldest and most dramatic colonial buildings in the Philippines, Intramuros, the old part of Manila, founded by the Spanish in 1571, The Chinese cemetery, an area that looks like a small town where rich Chinese are buried, and last but not least the national museum. When the sun sets we can recommend a walk along the Manila bay, here you will find many small restaurants, a lot of people, entertainment and music. We also have a welcome dinner later on in the evening.

Day 2 Explore Legaspi, Mount Mayon and Cagsawa Ruins

After a one-hour flight we arrive in Legaspi. This city is mostly known for the famous volcano Mount Mayon (2462 meters). It is one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world, famed for its nearley perfectly symmetrical cone. A Jeepney will pick us up at the airport and transport us to Cagsawa Ruins. In 1814, Mount Mayon had a big eruption and about 1200 people sought shelter in a church (present day Cagsawa Ruins). The lava from the volcano came over the church and all the people and the church were buried in the masses. Today Cagsawa Ruins is a popular tourist spot since it offers a fantastic view over the volcano. After the visit by the ruins we continue to the Mayon Skyline Hotel, located on the northern slope of the volcano, from here the view is beautiful. In the afternoon we take the bus to Donsol.

Day 3-4 Go snorkeling with the Whale Sharkes in Donsol

These two days we are going to snorkel with whale sharks, which will be a memory for life! It is an indescribable feeling to swim with these gentle giants of the sea. We are going out in a small boat together with a professional whale spotter/ guide. Diving is not allowed, only snorkelling. Snorkelling equipment can be rented for about 300 pesos. However, if you want to be guaranteed good equipment you should bring your own stuff. On the evening of day 3, you have the opportunity to take a boat up the river and watch the fireflies. In the evening of day 4 we return to Legaspi.

Day 5 Back to Manila

We fly back to Manila; you will have the afternoon free for activities.

Day 6 Going home

No activities are planned today, and you might book your flight back home at any time you like.
